Not near the fires
As people have been asking, luckily we are not near the wild fires that are currently burning. They are farther north, and thankfully the wind has been blowing the smoke in the opposite direction - so we're doing ok other than hoping that the fires and this heat wave end soon.

Pretend City and Swimming

This was a packed weekend of activities for our house. Saturday was round two of swimming lessons and a birthday party. The swimming went a little bit better. Cole actually made it into the water and made it through class. There were some tears though. He did the class with Mary this time which seems to have helped. For the most part he was ok, but he wasn't so sure when the instructor had him. A little freaked out and some tears were shed. (And maybe some screams.) But we have been taking him to a friends pool during the week and he is warming up to things.
On Sunday we went to the opening of a new children's activity center called Pretend City. It is a huge new center that is set up just like a city, but all indoors. The kids can ride around in pedal cars, farm, pick produce, go to the grocery store, play at the beach, play firefighter, sing on stage and a number of other really fun activities. The whole place is geared to kids ages 1-6 and there was plenty for Cole to do. He really enjoyed himself. We will definitely go back.
We are in the middle of a heat wave which makes our house a little unbearable in the late afternoons into the evening. Hopefully it breaks soon.
Take care.

The Tunnel
Cole continues to enjoy his summer. He is more active than ever and has started really walking this week. He is still a little tentative at times, but he does cruise around on his own...unless he wants to go really fast - then he crawls.
The tunnel is something we picked up at Ikea. He went through a tunnel at his music class one day and really enjoyed it so we found one for home. Ikea has great kids toys at very reasonable prices.
We will try to capture some walking soon. He just hasn't been cooperating with the camera.

Swim Lessons
Here I am before my first swim lesson. Let's just say, I'm a lot calmer and composed in this picture than when I got in the water... My Mommy and Daddy are going to have to take me to the pool a few times before my next class so that I get more used to being in the water.
Hope everyone is having a great summer.

Cole Eating With A Spoon
Cole learned how to feed himself with a spoon this week. Unfortunately only about half of the food makes it to his mouth. It is a work in progress. He was sooooooo proud of himself when he figured it out.
Hamming it up by the beach.
It is hard to believe it is August already. This summer is flying by, but we are enjoying it immensely. Cole loves to hang by the beach and just stare out at the ocean with the wind in his hair. It's pretty funny to watch him. He has an active social schedule between going to the park, play dates, music class, and playing in the sand. Recently we moved the spare bed out of his room so he has more room to play. His room is directly above my office, so I can always tell when he is up and playing because I can hear him scurrying across the floor, banging his toys along the way.
Trip to the Zoo
Hello! This week we made a trip to the San Diego Zoo and tried out Cole's backpack carrier. Overall it was a very successful trip and Cole enjoyed seeing the animals. We didn't stay too long as it was hot and we were between naps, but what we did see was great. We hit the petting zoo, the monkeys, gorillas, koalas, and much more. We really enjoyed the backpack and will use it more often as it is much easier to get around without the stroller. (Just have to stretch out the back the next day.)
More photos to come.
