Back to normal.

Back to somewhat normal around our house. Cole is in much better spirits and is so happy to have his toys to play with. Still keeping him on a pretty safe diet for right now. He is growing very tired of us pushing fluids on him. He is also talking up a storm lately. All sorts of stories to tell us. And all sorts of mischief to get into. I was cleaning up the kitchen this morning and realized it was a little too quiet in the living room. When I went out to look for Cole I couldn't find him. So I went upstairs to see if he was in his room. (BTW...we have gates on the stairs, but he has figured out how to open them.) He wasn't in his room, but was instead in mom and dads room, in bed, tucked under the covers, waiting to watch some Curious George. He was so proud of himself when I walked in. I guess he is feeling better.

Below are some additional photos from this summer. Thank you to everyone that has checked in on Cole and us over the past few days.

Love,
John, Mary and Cole

WE GOT TO GO HOME!!

Though they were telling us around lunchtime that it was looking like Cole was going to have to stay another night - Cole was able to keep down his dinner so they let us get a late discharge. Which was good - here was the conversation Cole had with us towards the end of the day - "Get Doctor. Doctor - where are you? Ring, ring. Off (points to IV in this hand and the ID tags on his leg). Put shoes on. Go outside. Mama's car. Go home."

A very tired, but happy to be home John, Mary and Cole

Quick Update

As some of you know Cole had been fighting a little cough for awhile. Earlier this week we took him to the doctor to get the cough checked out which turned out to be nothing major, but it looks like he picked up some other bug while there. The poor little guy has been very sick since Thursday and hasn't been able to keep any food down. On Sunday morning he really couldn't keep things down so we took him to the emergency room. As we had feared he was becoming dehydrated so they kept him in the E.R. for awhile pumping fluids in and checking to make sure it wasn't something worse..like appendicitis or something with his intestines. Fortunately nothing there, but he still can't keep down fluids or food. He is spending the night at CHOC which is the Children's Hospital of Orange County. Mary is staying with him as only one parent can spend the night. He is resting now and has had a full day of Curious George and Disney TV.

It is tough to see him so wiped out. He really has no energy and is very weak. He is so wiped out that he doesn't even care when all of these strangers poke and prod him or put IV drips in. And for those of you that know Cole that is not like him. He just let's them do their thing. It is hard when he keeps asking for "Glug Glug" (water) or for food. He even started telling us he wanted to go home stating "Go home. Mama's car. Shoes On. Hey Doctor, out." He was pointing to his IV monitor when he said the piece about the doctor. We know he is still in ok spirits because he keeps telling us little stories and also trying different approaches to getting water. He is quite persuasive.

Anyway, keep us in your thoughts. We hope that he will be coming home on Monday but just don't know at this point.

Happy 2nd Birthday!

Today our little man had his second birthday. It is just amazing that two years have already passed. This last year was exciting as Cole learned how to walk/run, learned more words, broke his leg, and has continued to be such a joy to us. Our day was very low key. It started out with a short walk to the donut shop for Cole to pick out some donut holes. Once home Cole quickly devoured the donuts and opened presents. He was completely spoiled and really does not want for anything. Even though we are far away from family we were able to spend time together via video chats today. After a long nap (sugar crash induced) we headed to the beach for the afternoon to play with some of Cole's friends. We had a very nice time even though it was very overcast today. To cap off the day Cole had his Red Velvet Sprinkles Cupcake and he enjoyed every last crumb. Thank you to everyone for thinking of Cole and us on this special day!

Rhode Island Part 2

Hello,

Too tired from our travels to write much, but thought I would post many of the photos to tell the story.  Here are a number of additional photos from the weekend in Rhode Island.  As you can see the kids had a lot of fun.  They played in the ocean, dug holes in the sand, and relaxed together.

More photos and comments from the trip to come.

Long Island Visit

We spent two days in Long Island visiting Jimmy, Lisa and Jillian.  They have a wonderful house and a great backyard that is made for kids. Rachel, Stephen and Amelia joined us on Saturday morning for brunch on their way out to the shore for the weekend.  The kids had a lot of fun playing together and enjoying the many toys outside.
